Edo LP chieftain urges Sanusi to check illegal sale of Naira

BENIN — DEPUTY Chairman of Labour Party in Edo State, Chief Patrick Eholor, yesterday, challenged the governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mallam Lamido Sanusi, to address the sale of the nation’s currency by illegal operators in the open market.
Wondering why the sale of the nation’s currency has become a thriving business in major motor parks in the country, he blamed officials of the apex bank for the problem.
Eholor,  weekend, in Benin, Edo State,  maintained that the ban on the sale of the Nigerian currency by illegal operators of bureau de change would be a ruse, unless there was outright stoppage in the patronage of the business by government officials and other highly placed persons.
He said the illegal sale of the currency had depreciated the value of the  naira and had also  dampened  the morale  of citizens.
He said: “What is Mallam Sanusi doing about it? These are not the ordinary citizens, they are the bourgeois, who are selling our money. It is better to stop them but rather, we are playing blind to them, as  they are using tax payers’ money to print our currency and after doing so, they  resell it to the ordinary citizens.
