This is against the backdrop of INEC’s confirmation of receiving an application from a political association, African People’s Congress, APC, for registration as a political party to contest the 2015 general elections.

TIMARIV: When Rivers goes to war against traffic offenders On March 13, 2013 · In 12:20 am   0 WHEN Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi assumed office as governor of Rivers State, one of the indices that defined the critical insecurity in the state was road users’ unreserved disrespect for traffic codes. From government officials, commercial drivers, criminals on the wheel, cyclists (before they were banned), banks dispatch vans to security patrols, hardly anyone respected decorum on the roads, especially in the capital city of Port Harcourt. Added to the impunity with which vendors and shop owners overlap trading into major motorways, traffic jams were such a constant feature and made driving on Port Harcourt roads a daily nightmare for  motorists and commuters.

2013 budget under scrutiny – Senate

On March 13, 2013 · In News 12:27 am   0 BY HENRY UMORU & JOSEPH ERUNKE ABUJA—Senate said, Tuesday, it was presently scrutinising the 2013 budget, which was signed last week by President Goodluck Jonathan, saying it had distributed copies of the signed bill to all senators to go through and ensure there were no alteration by the executive. However, the upper legislative chamber said it was yet to receive formal communication from the executive on the proposed amendment of some portions of the budget. This came just as it distanced itself from the proposed immunity being sought by the House of Representatives for legislators, saying the legislators can only have immunity within the premises of the National Assembly. The governor, who spoke at a dinner organised in honour of the  Consul General of American Consulate in Lagos, Mr. Jeffrey Hawkins, at the Governor’s Lodge in Awka, noted that while most of the developed nations were fast exhausting their resources, Africa had a lot of untapped wealth that would help other countries of the world when harnessed.

Oshiomhole accuses Adoke of trivialising Oyerinde’s murder prosecution

On March 13, 2013 · In News 12:20 am   0  Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State yesterday accused the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, of trivialising the death of his Principal Private Secretary, Olaitan Oyerinde, by failing to prosecute those alleged to have murdered him. But the Attorney General of the Federation, Mohammed Adoke, denied trivialising the prosecution of those alleged to have killed Oyerinde, saying Oshiomhole was at liberty to say anything. Speaking with state House correspondents at the end of the National Council of State meeting where the governor and Attorney General had an open altercation over the matter, Governor Oshiomhole said government officials had a responsibility to ensure that they took their duties very seriously, especially when it involved life and death.
