Africa has the potential to drive global economy – Gov Obi

AWKA — GOVERNOR Peter Obi of Anambra State has said  Africa had the potential to drive the global economy in the nearest future.
The governor, who spoke at a dinner organised in honour of the  Consul General of American Consulate in Lagos, Mr. Jeffrey Hawkins, at the Governor’s Lodge in Awka, noted that while most of the developed nations were fast exhausting their resources, Africa had a lot of untapped wealth that would help other countries of the world when harnessed.

He explained that at the present tempo of growth and development in Nigeria, the country would soon become the power house of the sub-Saharan Africa and would, by the turn of the decade, overtake most leading economies in Africa.
Obi informed the American envoy that Anambra State had great assets of human capital and high concentration of entrepreneurs, adding that the state had been recreated by his administration to become a reference point in the country and beyond.
In his speech, the American Consul General, who said he was in the state as part of tour of South-East states, stated that he was impressed with the vision and efforts of the governor to elevate Anambra State to a pride of place.
According to him, the visit had enabled him to appreciate firsth the dynamism and enterprising spirit of Anambta people and extolled their rich cultural heritage.
He added that America would continue to explore areas of cooperation and exchange to further deepen relations with the state.
